Prof. Dr James Gordon, founder and director of the Center for Mind-Body Medicin in Washington D.C., psychiatrist
In this workshop dr Gordon will give practical tools to help us move through and beyond the ordinary daily impasses and challenges that confront us.
We will learn and experience a wide range of scientifically based, yet playful mind-body techniques that are designed to help us get and stay unstuck and move ahead with our lives. These includes several kinds of meditation, (no one type is right for everyone), Guided imagery, movement and dance and nutrition. And possibly even experiments with drawing and dialogue.
We will briefly discuss how to integrate this model and these techniques into our lives and our practises.

Integrative family medicine
Dr Victoria Maizes, family practitioner and executive director of the Arizona Centre for Integrative Medicine, Tucson Arizona
Illness is never an experience of the body. Patients experience mental, emotional and spiritual reactions to their disease, ranging from mild worry to an existential crisis. Integrative family medicine is an evidence based approach that weaves together a range of therapeutic options from conventional and alternative healing systems. By learning to use this wider range of tools, we learn to recognise unarticulated distress, bring it out into the open and help the patients gain clarity inside and new coping skills. The perspective that we hold about illness and our own reflective process is critical to the practise of integrative medicine.

Drs J.W. Louwerens, psychiatrist and director Noordland Kernzorg; P. Faber, holistic energetic therapist Noordland Kernzorg
Self healing capacity is at the base of each treatment. Integrated psychiatry is the best way to stimulate this capacity maximally. The treatment is based on both patient and practioner’s ideas in which knowledge and experience is involved. In this workshop this way of working will be illustrated with vignettes for which the involved patients themselves will be invited.

Circular instead of hierarchical
Prof. Dr H. Walach, European University Viadrina, Institute of Transcultural Health Studies, Frankfurt (Oder), Germany
We usually think that some kind of intervention or treatment is only evidence based when the efficacy is being demonstrated in a randomised clinical trial (RCT). This is supposed to be the highest form of evidence. But this method is not always suitable in integrated psychiatry. Sometimes we need a different model of scientific evidence. This circular methodology of scientific effect evaluation is explained during this workshop.
