Integrative Psychiatry - Fourth Dutch Conference, 2010
Self healing capacity
With great pleasure we announce the fourth conference on integrative psychiatry to be held on the 10th of March 2010 in Martiniplaza in Groningen. The central theme will be Self healing capacity.
Integrated psychiatry is the integration of conventional psychiatry with complementary and alternative medicine based on 1) scientific evidence for safety and efficacy 2) preferences of the patient 3) professional expertise of the therapist.
Together with that, the therapeutic relationship is reaffirmed and optimized, the focus is on health and wellbeing, working with a holistic perspective in a healing environment.
Self healing capacity is as old as medicine itself. It is similar to love and happiness, in this way, that everyone seems to know what is meant by it, but no-one seems to be able to put it into words. Maybe we should leave it that way. Or maybe we should really try to explain it in words and interventions, because it seems so essential to an optimal health care system. That is the central theme of this conference. What is self healing capacity, and how do we use it in daily practise?
In our opinion, integrated psychiatry works with self healing capacity in the broadest sense. It involves the use of conventional, complementary and alternative medicine like medication, foot supplements, herbs, vitamins, lifestyle, cognitive behavioural therapy, heart coherence, mindfulness and solution focused psychotherapy.
During this conference three well-known speakers will introduce the theme:
-
James Gordon is a psychiatrist, founder and director of the Mind Body Center in Washington. He will speak about his
experience with healing trauma without medication, on how he uses mind-body medicine in working with children and adults in post-war situations.
-
Barbara Fredrickson is a psychologist and a pioneer in Positive Psychology: placing the focus of attention on increasing healthy positive
emotions instead of suppressing pathological and negative ones.
-
David Servan-Schreiber, psychiatrist and writer, was suddenly forced to cancel his speech in 2008. This year he will be present and he will
speak about ‘homeostasis and the self healing capacity of mind and body’.
There will also be workshops on psycho- oncology, heart coherence, Ngalso Self healing meditation, Past Reality Integration, and many more.
We hope to see you the 10th of March 2010!
